CFCA presents its 2nd Annual AG Actor's Showcase 2012

You’re invited to our second annual Actor’s Gym Actor’s Showcase! It’s been one hell of a year for our actors, filmmakers and crew! Over 12 years ago, Luis Robledo created Actor’s Gym as a way for actors to gain mastery through consistent practice on set. Armed with a hand-held consumer camera and its on-board mic, Luis set out, not to create a business, but to create opportunity for both himself, and his actor friends.

A decade later, and by word of mouth, students began pouring in and Center For the Cinematic Arts was born. Today, CFCA boasts two ongoing classes, as well as original reel-building workshops, each with actors continually booking work in film, television and commercials. The old camera has been replaced by the much-loved Canon 7D, as well as a full lighting and sound package that has rocketed production values to new heights.  CFCA's cinematography department is headed by CUEC graduate, Eduardo Servello.

So what exactly is "Actor's Gym"..?

Actors receive their scenes 24 hours prior to arriving to class, off-book, prepared, and armed with full wardrobe and makeup in hand.  Next, scenes are worked, blocked, lit and shot ONE TAKE per actor.  The scenes are edited, color-graded, sound designed and presented on a 9ft. movie screen the following week for critique and feedback.  This type of quick turn-around allows the actor to connect the "experience" to the "result" on a weekly basis, thus allowing for accelerated mastery of the medium.

And what about the "Reel-Building Workshop"..?

As our actors grew within their craft, they began using clips of the scenes for their reel. Sensing a need in the market for a high-production value, highly-personalized actor reel service, CFCA created the Actor’s Gym Reel-Building Workshop. Five award-winning filmmakers write, shoot and edit original material for six actors over five weeks covering a variety of genres and styles based on each individual actor’s needs.  At the end, each actor walks away with four ‘mini-shorts’, and a 2-minute reel created from the best moments of each scene.  Our directors include CFCA’S very own award- winning filmmaker and company CEO, Luis Robledo, who wrote and directed the cult hit, El Taxista, and is in post-production with The Retreat, CFCA’S latest thriller.  Hank Jacobs wrote and directed, the highly-acclaimed, El Segundo, which featured the late great, Pedro Armendariz, Jr.  Beresford Bennett’s short, Companions, has been in over a dozen film festivals and on the cable network, BETJ.  He is currently in development of several projects for CFCA.  Zak Forsman’s latest feature directorial effort, Down and Dangerous, is building mass anticipation through social media and features a wonderful cast, including Luis Robledo in the role of DEA Agent Arturo Rezendez.  Last but not least, we are proud to bring on the latest addition to our CFCA family, Roberto Girault, who’s first feature, El Estudiante, was a box-office success and winner of many accolades world-wide.  CFCA looks forward to Roberto's contribution in 2013.
